Character Name: Axel
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Gender: Male
Age: Really fuckin old
Sexuality (if applicable): Bisexual
Original or Anomaly?: Anomaly
Appearance:
Axel has a lithe frame, reaching about five foot eight, though his wild mane of red hair tends to add a few inches in his favor. It reaches down to the middle of his back, the result of him forgetting to cut it after a few hundred years passing. And thankfully, despite his age, he still doesn't look a day over twenty-two and knows it. There's always a cocky smile on his face, and narrow green eyes give him an almost exotic look. The two tear-shaped markings under both eyes only enhance the effect.

Because of the business-like atmosphere the Organization portrays, Axel is sometimes found in casual-business attire - he can't bring himself to actually wear a suit no matter how the superiors bitch at him, so that's the best they get. His Organization coat is rarely worn unless he's on a mission or just feels like messing with people.
Personality:
It’s hard to sometimes pin Axel down with a particular personality trait, as he acts so vague and uninterested at times one would think he’s bored with his existence. His sharp tongue cuts anyone with sarcastic taunts and teases, and given the position of power he’s in, the bastard knows damn well he can get away with most of it. It pays to be good at his job.
But deep down… he’s not a nice guy. While not outright cruel, the superiority of Nobody status has turned him cold to the suffering he knows is around him. It’s just their bad luck, after all, just like it was his bad luck to not die when the Heartless took his original heart. When he orders the Heartless after a world, it’s just his job; no hard feelings, of course. But he’s not about to waste his temporary emotions on a lost cause.
It’s with this hardness in his ‘heart’ that lets him smirk and grin and play and converse with world leaders, sniffing out the dissenters and watching those worlds burn without remorse. A more hands-on job in the Organization, especially for the eighth member, but then Axel isn’t one for sitting at a desk all day long.
And like his key element suggests, it’s best not to provoke him too much. A few worlds have found this fact out the hard way. Either someone gives as good as they got, or they stay the hell out of his way. Position or not, Axel doesn’t mind knocking down a few unlucky civilians to reach his goal or finish a mission if they don’t get out of his way fast enough.
Once there might have been another side to him, full of the possibility for friendship, but his life as a Nobody has all but stunted it. Axel trusts no one besides himself, too wise to any younger underlings hoping for his good graces, and not willing to put some of the softer emotions his heart can offer to use. The dedication, playfulness, tenderness, and desire for trust are there, but sadly buried away in the deepest reaches of his soul. And so far, no one has been able to unlock them.
History:
Back then, it had just been a stroke of bad luck.
Everyone knew about the Heartless. The things existed wherever life did, feeding off the darkness of every heart and jealously taking what they themselves had lost. They prowled the universe, a virus and plague to whichever place visited, destroying new and old worlds alike.
So really, it wasn’t a surprise when they came to attack Axel’s home. It was no one’s fault but their own when no one saw it coming, the sudden rush of back with wide, yellow eyes and claws that ripped into his world, into his home, into his skin and made him bleed and fall into a new darkness he hadn’t seen coming.
Just really, really bad luck.
And maybe it was even worse luck that he could still remember the screams and the pain when he came to, all alone and empty in ways he couldn’t understand but could definitely speculate. Heartless had always been around. So had Nobodies. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what happened.
But that’s when some would say Axel’s luck changed.
They called themselves the Organization; only made up of a few members who had played with the darkness and lost the gamble. They could provide him with what he’d lost, they’d assured. Maybe not the original, but he could make it his own. A new heart – clockworks, they called them - and the promise of power not possible before. The fact he even existed – if that word applied anymore - proved he could be very useful indeed; only those with strong wills could cheat death and become Nobodies.
All he had to do was chip in a little. It was beneficial for him too, after all. When his clockwork ran out, he’d need another one, and another after that. The Heartless would be used under their control and steal hearts; Keyblade Masters would be found and trained to cultivate the hearts stolen; anyone foolish enough to voice their distaste of the system was calmly put out of their misery. Simple and clean work.
It had been the most interesting back then. The most exciting when they had slinked through the shadows, when Axel had gone to worlds and done things he would not have been proud of as a human, but since this was the only way to taste that humanity again, it didn’t make one damn difference what he once thought to be right and wrong. It had been almost elevating to know he was just as much a cancer as the things that had made him what he was, and the thought, however cruel, let him keep watching the more rebellious towns burn under his unforgiving flame with a slight grin on his face. And every time, the heart that he made his pumped steadily, and reminded him why he was there.
It made him twisted, he understood, but life wasn’t fair, right? It was lose-lose all the way around. The difference between him and them was they were losing much faster. Oh well. Bad luck and all that.
Nowadays it wasn’t as much an adrenaline rush. Their time in the shadows had ended, giving way to an empire that stretched through the universe. Most worlds bowed before the Organization, willingly giving up sacrifices and possible keybearers in return for power and position, trade and commerce, knowing that if they did not submit, the hellhounds of the Organization would be upon them. But Axel couldn’t help but find it ironic anyway how easily people turned their eyes from the light of truth, laughed away what should’ve shook them, some going as far as to wish a Heartless on their child so that he might become a Nobody and gain power in the Organization. Nothing was sacred, huh. But that, again, was just how it worked. No point in making your own bad luck.
He himself had been given everything promised: position, power, eternal freedom from death. Even an office he couldn’t be assed to sit in. Some stuffy suits he promptly burned. A shitload of second chances whenever he pushed all his superiors’ PMS buttons. Being one of the original thirteen had its perks and he knew it. All it had taken was losing his heart. Though, funny how it had most likely become a clockwork itself, and thus promptly used until it expired, disappearing forever into a void of non-existence. But since he couldn’t’ remember the feel of his original heart, he didn’t rightly care.
Just another stroke of bad luck.
Strengths:
Every Nobody has a signature element and weapon. For Axel, they are fire and chakrams. Manipulation of fire is as easy as breathing to him, and he can call forth a flame in any environment. The chakrams give him the advantage of both short distance and long distance fighting because of their design. He can fling them at an enemy with deadly accuracy from far away, but also use them for up-close combat.
Nobodies can also create portals that link to and through the darkness, allowing them to appear wherever they wish. Axel finds them quite useful for quick escapes when he’s done pissing people off.
Despite how easy-going he might appear, Axel is one of the original twelve for a very good reason besides timing. He’ll lie, twist words, and backstab with the same smirk on his face, making sure the job gets done. In the same breath, getting Axel to reveal anything more than his usual sarcasm is a feat. He likes being a step ahead of the game no matter who’s playing.
Along with being one of the original
Weaknesses:
Though the need for hand-to-hand combat is gone, Axel is only useful for quick jobs, coming in and destroying an opponent in a matter of minutes. The longer the battle wears on, the less effective he is. His frame isn’t fit to handle tough battles that rely heavily on physical strength.
It’s hard to bring out his temper, but it’s possible. Axel doesn’t like to back away from challenges. Press the right buttons and he’ll willingly follow an opponent to hell, if only so he can beat the organs out of them. Still, he can be manipulated under the right circumstances. He just loathes to admit it.
There is a capacity for Axel to care about someone, however small it is. It’s just never happened yet. Considering how dedicated he could be, people special to him could be used against him.
